WEDNESDAY JUNE 7TH, 2023:
Our Lake Management partner (PLM) is scheduled to treat the lake for aquatic invasive species on Wednesday June 7. This 2nd treatment in 2023 will focus on the extensive growth of Eurasion Water Milfoil (EWM) throughout the lake. The initial treatment on May 25 targeted the NW Canals and NE cove.
As discussed at our SLPOA Annual mtg., with ~~ 28 acres of EWM identified, spot treatments will be delivered in all areas of the lake. Please check notifications that will be posted near the shoreline on day of treatment.
How do I get notified of lake treatments to control growth of aquatic invasive species?
The first notification of the season that you will receive is a mailed one sheet document from PLM in the spring. This one-page, tri-folded document is mailed to every homeowner that is subject to the Special Assessment District (SAD). This document will describe the lake treatments anticipated to happen for the season and the approximate timing of the treatment.
If you have enrolled to receive SLPOA emails, you will receive an email prior to each treatment approximately 5-7 days prior to the treatment. To enroll in SLPOA emails, go to the home page >>> sandlakemi.org <<< scroll down a bit and enter your first name, last name and an email OR scroll to the bottom of this page.
On the day of treatment, PLM places a notification at the DNR access site.
On the day of treatment, PLM will leave a neon color one page document at each shoreline that is within 100 feet of a lake treatment. These notices will be stapled to an available tree or if no tree, then staked in the ground. The notices describe the chemicals used and will provide the EGLE alert to stay out of the water for 24 hours. Please note, that the EPA has no restrictions on the chemicals PLM typically uses in our lake.
If you do not want the PLM notice stapled to your tree, and prefer a stake, then please sign up for emails and when you receive an email that a treatment is scheduled, place a notice on or near your tree requesting “Do not staple notice to tree” prior to the scheduled treatment day.
Thank You,
SLPOA
